A Ciambra
director: Jonas Carpignano
starring: Pio Amato, Iolanda Amato, Koudous Seihon

A Ciambra

In the small Romani community in Calabria known as the Ciambra, 14-year-old Pio Amato is keen to grow up fast and is one of the only people able to work for all of the local criminal factions. When his brother Cosimo disappears and his own status within gangland falters, Pio sets out to prove he is ready to step into his big brother's shoes. Made with the assistance of the local community, A Ciambra takes us into a world rarely seen on screen, and does so with a rare degree of emotional intensity and cinematic energy.

Why our films (usually) have to start promptly at 8.30pm

Although our films are scheduled to start at 8.30pm, on busier nights we've always been able to hold up the start until everyone is in and seated. With the arrival of digital projection, however, this has all changed. Most of the films we screen now arrive as high definition digital files that are coded to play at a specific time, over which the projectionist has no control. This means that the film has to start playing at 8.30pm or not at all. Thus to avoid potentially missing the start of the film, it's worth arriving in good time for the screening.

Please note that some longer films will be scheduled to start at 8pm.
