Apologies to those of you who have been intermittently popping back to be confronted by a home screen that promises OSS 117: Lost in Rio was showing next, despite a screening date that has long since passed. This was the result of a rather special combination of technical glitches and operator laziness that should have been sorted some time ago.
For those of you new to the society, this is our summer recess, as such, when the Palace Cinema concentrates on the holiday audiences and the volunteers who run the society get to have just a little time to ourselves. But not for long. We are meeting on Sunday 25th July to decide the next programme, so if you have any suggestions for films you'd like to see then get them to us before then, preferably by email, as we tend to forget things when told in the street and end up going through film magazines trying to recall just what the title was. Many thanks to those who have already sent suggestions through - they will all be put forward for possible inclusion.
We've left the details of last season up in the right-hand bar for those who have just discovered our existence to get an idea of the sort of films we screen. We've been prompted many times to post as list of every film we've shown, and are now getting close to actually doing so, having finally located the listings of earlier seasons, which were recorded with comments about the sometimes colourful screenings that resulted.
Anyway, the next season's list will be posted in early August, and we hope to see you all again in September. In the mean time, stay away from the summer blockbusters if you can - there are plenty of worthy films available on DVD and Blu-ray, which you'll find regular coverage of on our sister site DVD Outsider.
All the best,
The Thanet Film Society crew |
